Why we tested it
The Joybos Z35 caught our attention by addressing the persistent frustration of messy, ill-fitting garbage bags. While many touchless bins focus solely on sensor speed, this model introduces an automatic adsorption feature that pulls the bag against the inner walls, ensuring a clean aesthetic and preventing the bag from slipping. We wanted to see if this proprietary mechanism truly simplifies waste management or adds unnecessary complexity. By combining a 0.3-second infrared response time with a design that hides unsightly bag edges, the Z35 promises a more hygienic and organized experience for high-traffic areas like bathrooms and kitchens. We tested it to determine if it successfully bridges the gap between smart convenience and practical, everyday utility.
Who it's for
This bin is ideal for homeowners seeking a cleaner, more modern bathroom or kitchen aesthetic, particularly those who value touchless hygiene. It is perfect for pet owners who need to keep curious animals out of the trash. However, those who prefer standard, inexpensive grocery store bags should skip this model. The Z35 is designed to work best with specific bag systems to ensure the adsorption feature functions correctly. If you are looking for a large-capacity kitchen bin for heavy-duty waste, the compact size of this unit may not meet your needs, making it better suited for light, daily household refuse.
Real-world performance
In real-world use, the Z35 performs reliably as a smart, touchless solution. The infrared sensor is highly responsive, consistently opening within the advertised 0.3 seconds when hands or objects enter the 15-25 cm range. Users appreciate the five-second auto-close delay, which provides enough time to dispose of items without the lid flapping prematurely. The standout feature, the automatic adsorption, works well to keep the bag taut against the inner walls, preventing the common issue of bags collapsing under the weight of trash. While the build quality is durable ABS plastic, some users note that finding the perfect bag fit can be a learning curve. Overall, it functions as a quiet, efficient, and hygienic upgrade for small spaces, provided you are prepared to manage the battery requirements and bag supply.
